According to the policy adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact info a domain is registered with must be valid and up to date at all times. In addition, this info is freely visible on WHOIS lookup sites and while this may not be a problem for corporations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, because anybody can view their names and their personal home and email addresses, particularly in an age when identity fraud is not that rare. For this reason, domain name registrars have launched a service that hides the details of their clients without modifying them. The service is referred to as Whois Privacy Protection. In case it is active, people will view the details of the domain registrar, not the domain owner’s, if they do a WHOIS lookup. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic top-level domain name extensions, but it is still not possible to hide your details with some country-code extensions.
Whois Privacy Protection in Web Hosting
If you get a web hosting package from our company, you’ll be able to activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domain names in case their extensions support this option. You can register or transfer a domain name and add Whois Privacy Protection during the signup process or you can enable the service for any of your domains at any moment afterwards through the Hepsia Control Panel. The process is very easy – after you sign in, you will have to visit the Registered Domains section where you’ll notice a list of all the domain names that you have registered with our company. For each of them you will see an “Whois Privacy Protection” sign, which will inform you if the service is activated or not. By clicking on it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain name, or you can turn off the service if it is currently enabled.
Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us and you register a domain name under it, you can add our Whois Privacy Protection service without difficulty. This takes only a few clicks in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, through which you manage everything related to your semi-dedicated hosting account. This is where you can see all your active domain names and for each one of them you’ll find an “Whois Privacy Protection” logo, using which you can activate, renew or remove the service. Of course, this can be done only with generic and country-specific extensions that support this option and you’ll be able to see this in advance, so you will not end up paying for a service that we can’t provide.
